WATER COLLECTOR

As the shells and fonts hold water as a baptism for life, this water collector from Teguise in Lanzarote shows a unique way of harvesting the rare and precious water on this barren island. Again, showing how important water is for life. When the infrequent rain or night mists descend water collects within and around this volcanic stone pod, tiny plants grow around the outside and in turn filter the water which drips slowly into the collector below. These collectors are found in small shrine like boxes or cupboards in external passages or window ledges in Teguise.
