Anemos II - Windflower

Spring filled anemones or "Windflower", its name coming from the belief that the flower only opens in March "Coy anemone that ne'er uncloses, Her lips until they're blown on by the wind." The Greeks believed the flower was a gift from the wind god Anemos and sent to herald his coming in spring. Gesso and oil on board in antique frame. 86 x 61cm.
