These paintings are driven by the need to reflect emotion — to hold intensity, vulnerability and belief within the painted surface. Fruits, flowers and objects are approached not as motifs of still life, but as images to be held and contemplated, allowing stillness and repetition to give them an icon-like presence.

Flowers resist this stillness. They arrive as energy — lifted by wind, storm and light — and are painted at the moment when fragility and intensity coincide. What matters is not perfection, but the sense that bloom is already beginning to break apart as it reaches its height.

While painting, I wrote: “Fruits and inanimate objects become devotional treasures, items of worship — icons… Flowers become energy, ecstasy, a kind of religious fervour… an urgency, a call to life in bloom… An uncontainable madness in the aching desire to capture their explosive, fleeting and transient beauty… Flowers and objects gilded and metallised with light, transformed into precious devotional surfaces…”

Led intuitively through gesture, the work allows light to enter through instability rather than conceal it. Taken together, these paintings acknowledge the fleeting — accepting that intensity, beauty and meaning arrive through imperfection.
